AugmentScan for iPhone · Effective October 23, 2026
The short version
AugmentScan keeps your papers on your own devices. There's no account, no advertising and no tracking, and we don't collect or receive your scans.
Who we are
AugmentScan is developed under the name Veravis Labs ("we", "us"). For anything about privacy, email support@veravislabs.com.
What we collect
The AugmentScan app doesn't collect any personal information. Your scans, their text and everything you file stay on your devices; we never receive them.
The only personal information we receive is what you send us yourself: if you email support, we get your email address and your message. We keep support emails only as long as we need them to help you, and no longer than 12 months after your last message. You can ask us to delete them sooner at any time.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your scans. Pictures you take with the camera, pages from your printer's scanner, and photos you choose are stored in the app on your iPhone. You can also see them in the Files app, under AugmentScan, and copy them from there.
- Reading the text. The words on your pages are read by Apple's text recognition on your iPhone, so the app can name, sort and search your papers.
- Read it to me. Reading aloud uses the voices built into your iPhone.
- Backups. If your iPhone backs up to iCloud or to your computer, your papers are in that backup too, like your photos. You can leave your scans out of iCloud Backup in the app (More → Settings → Your scans), or leave AugmentScan out in your iPhone's iCloud backup settings. iCloud backups are stored by Apple and are end-to-end encrypted only if you turn on Advanced Data Protection.
What the app connects to
- Your printer. To scan from a printer, the app finds the printer's scanner on your own Wi-Fi and receives the pages from it.
- Your own computer, if you choose. If you link AugmentScan to your own computer, your scans are sent from your iPhone to that computer, which reads and keeps them, and your iPhone shows what's on it. This happens between your own devices, through Tailscale, an encrypted connection between your devices that you set up yourself; the papers are not sent to us.
- A web page you share into the app. If you share a web page into AugmentScan, the app opens that page to save it as a PDF (and again later, if it couldn't the first time). The website sees that visit, as it would if you opened it in Safari.
- Nothing else. The app doesn't use analytics, advertising or tracking services, and it contains no third-party code that collects data.
Who else is involved
We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't use it for advertising. A few services carry out their part for us:
- Apple distributes the app (and TestFlight, for beta testers).
- Cloudflare hosts this website and forwards email sent to our address.
- Google stores our email inbox.
Each handles information under its own privacy policy, and we expect them to protect it as carefully as we do.
Sharing and printing
When you share or print a paper, it goes to the app, person or printer you choose, under their own privacy terms.
Permissions
When you choose photos instead of scanning, only the pictures you pick are given to the app; it doesn't see the rest of your library.
- Camera, to scan your papers.
- Local network, to find your printer's scanner on your Wi-Fi.
Deleting your data
You can delete any paper in the app. On your iPhone, a deleted paper stays under Deleted, where you can put it back, until you tap Delete now; nothing is erased by itself. If you use AugmentScan on your own computer, papers deleted there are kept under Deleted for 7 days (you can change this), then moved to your computer's Trash or Recycle Bin, where you can still restore them. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your iPhone; copies already in an iPhone backup stay there until that backup is replaced.
Your choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal information we have about you (normally just your emails), and ask us to correct or delete it. Email support@veravislabs.com and we'll reply within 45 days.
Do Not Track
AugmentScan and this website don't track you across other websites or apps, and no third party tracks you through them. So there's nothing to switch off, and we treat every visit the same whether or not your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal.
Beta testing
If you test AugmentScan through Apple's TestFlight, Apple collects crash logs and usage information and shares them with us; this may include your name and email address (not if you joined through a public link). Feedback and screenshots you send through TestFlight are shared with us too. We use this only to fix and improve AugmentScan and never share it with anyone. See Apple's TestFlight & Privacy.
Children
AugmentScan isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If a child under 13 emails us, we'll delete the message, and we'll answer a parent or guardian instead.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If a change would affect information you've already given us, we'll ask you first.
